Photography

During the first week I tried to use the skills of photography to show the ‘smell’ of the second-hand items, when I went to a lot of second-hand stores during my holiday research, the first impression they gave me was the smell. But the idea was not very successful. I find it difficult to accurately capture the unique smell of each different second-hand item in a photo. Therefore, teachers and classmates gave me many suggestions during class discussions, for example, I can express my perception of second-hand items through either sight or touch.

I also thought about it, and finally I realized that photography is about communicating our ideas to the audience visually, so this week I tried to combine some second-hand objects into some scenes. Content that modifies old forms to serve as new visuals. When shooting these old objects, I used some matting techniques to reconstruct these scenes. The focus of this group of photography is not to completely restore or innovate the appearance of old objects. Rather, we want to create an atmosphere where memories will last forever, showing the relationship between old objects and people.

The so-called nostalgia and retro come from our nostalgic memories from the past and the filters of the era. I hope that we can reshape our imagination through this group of photos and give old objects more plasticity and beauty value.
